What to do around the Musée Marmottan Monet?

The garden and the woods

The Ranelagh garden is the museum’s garden without actually being it: you walk through it on your way from La Muette, you sit there afterward, children take a spin on the old-fashioned carousel. Behind it, the Bois de Boulogne begins, and it’s the only museum in Paris from which you can set off on a walk under the trees for an hour without encountering a single car. Directions from the metro are on getting there by metro.

Louis Vuitton Foundation

In the woods, about 1.2 miles away. Another building, another era, another ticket. Many visitors combine the two in a day—Marmottan in the morning and the Foundation in the afternoon. It’s a great plan for those who’ve already visited Orsay and the Orangerie.

Passy and Balzac

Rue de Passy, with its shops and cafés, slopes down toward Trocadéro. The Maison de Balzac, on rue Raynouard about 0.6 miles away, is a small village house with a garden, where you’ll understand what Passy was like before it became part of Paris. Trocadéro

Three Line 9 stations, about 1.2 miles, for the view of the Eiffel Tower. I list it last because it’s the only place on this list where you’ll encounter the crowds you managed to avoid at the museum.
