Does the Paris Museum Pass work at the Musée Marmottan Monet?
Why the pass is not accepted
The Paris Museum Pass includes national or public museums and monuments. The Musée Marmottan Monet is the former home of Paul Marmottan, bequeathed in 1932 to the Académie des Beaux-Arts, which manages it as a private museum. It does not fall under any state museum programs: neither the pass nor the free first Sunday applies. Orsay and the Orangerie, the two other Monet museums in Paris, are national museums and accept the pass. But beware: at the Orangerie and Orsay, the pass does not always exempt you from timed entry, and it’s the time slot that makes the difference in the afternoon. A dated ticket, like the Orangerie ticket, sets the time; the pass does not.
How to plan your day
Marmottan in the morning, paid at the door, then the pass museums in the afternoon. The journey between the two takes 25 to 30 minutes by metro, detailed on getting there by metro. Don’t factor Marmottan into your pass’s cost-effectiveness calculation—it never will be.
If you already have the pass, keep it for Orsay and the Orangerie and consider the Marmottan ticket as an extra. With over a hundred Monets, it’s the most worthwhile extra of your trip.
