Cloakroom and bags at the Musée Marmottan Monet

There is a small cloakroom at the entrance, and large bags or suitcases are not allowed inside. A handbag or small backpack will pass without issue. A travel bag, cabin-sized suitcase, or hiking backpack won't fit in a private mansion with narrow rooms, and the cloakroom isn't sized for them. Leave your luggage at the hotel before coming.

What's allowed inside

A handbag, a small backpack carried by hand in the galleries, a camera without a tripod. Coats and umbrellas are left at the cloakroom, and I recommend doing so: the underground Monet room is the kind of place where you sit, and a coat on your lap ruins the moment. The cloakroom is small and sometimes full on spring Saturdays, which is another reason to come at opening time or on Thursday evenings, as explained on the best time to visit.

What's not allowed inside

Suitcases and large bags. I don’t specify dimensions—the museum doesn’t display them like Orsay does—but the rule is simple: if your bag gets in the way in a narrow staircase, it will bother the guards. There’s no left-luggage service at the museum or in the garden. If you’re coming from the train station or airport, stop by your hotel first; access details are on getting there by metro.
